Very Latest Admiral Jack News - 31/01/2012
The complete renovation of the BMYC Committee Boat Priscilla is nearly complete - see here for pictures and information.
We are reliably informed that the re-launch of Admiral Jack will be about lunchtime this coming Wednesday (1st Feb). We shall have a fly past this coming Saturday when John Boyce will be snapping away then you can all come and have a good look listen to the quiet engine and feel the smooth paint job, after which we can have a jolly good drink to celebrate please come and join us.
The date set for a champagne launch party and renaming of the boat to Admiral Jack is Saturday 25th February 2012. We shall be having a party from approx 4pm with canapés etc with a band for past and present members. The ceremony will take place opposite the Sussex Yachts premises inside the yacht basin.

Safety Checks - 19/01/2012
The BMYC race committee agreed that this year we should focus again on boat safety. During the BMYC Regatta in June, there will be random safety checks on boats. Make sure your boats are up to the required standard sooner rather than later - see www.bmyc.org.uk/racing/safety%20rules/.

Multihull at BMYC - 19/01/2012
As soon as the weather is good enough we hope to see a Dragonfly multihull racing with the PY fleet at BMYC. A trial handicap has been issued but is likely to need adjustment according to results. Racing monohulls should take into account the different performance characteristics of a multihull. But it all sounds fun - Welcome!

Race Fees increasing - 18/01/2012
The BMYC race committee agreed to change the fees for entering races to £17 for Sunday races and £10 for Wednesday races. The fee will be the same for both PY and IRC entries. This change will take force with the begining of the Spring Series 2012.
The increases are necessary to help cover the cost of the total refurbishment of Priscilla (now to be named Admiral Jack) and also the replacement of the No.2 & No.3 buoy and of course the purchase and launching of the brand new No.6 buoy. Priscilla is now owned by the club and is fully our responsibility. The refurbishment will mean that she is ready to be an excellent resource and to do service for many more years.
We think it is still very much value for money and hope that you agree.

No. 3 Buoy recovered - 18/01/2012
Whilst racing on Sunday 8th January, the fleet failed to find and round the No.3 buoy. Unfortunately it had broken free and floated away during the recent storms.
It appears that a shackle securing the new buoy and chain to the old ground tackle and sinker weight had broke through the monel seizing wire and the securing pin of the shackle un-wound and dropped out. The result was that the "naughty buoy" floated off (with it's light and about 30m of anchor chain) and went walkabout.
It's short holiday was well earnt, but all good things must come to an end and it was recovered on Tuesday 10th loosely anchored by its own chain just off the beach at Birling Gap. Solent Coastguard called us to inform us of the fact that it had been found and that Trinity House (the people who look after the nations buoys) were on their way to recover it for us in a very large ship.
This they duly did for us and we took delivery of it all (muscles and all) yesterday in Newhaven. The buoy is now safely under the clubhouse waiting for a good weather window where we can re-launch it. We hope we can find the old sinker and ground tackle with the help of the club divers to make the task easier.
